Last week, Youth in Government had the wonderful opportunity to travel to the Columbus statehouse to present their own student drafted bills and participate in the legislative process.  The following students participated in the group this year and are being recognized for their commitment to the process and the group:

Javiana Davis, Mira Swirsky, Tyler Heeeesley, Francesca Tarasella, Anna Meillat, Sana Adi, Elise Kemp, Ava Arch, Nora Van Valkenburgh, Audrey Blaiser, Sophie Starrfield, Lilly Russo, Camryn Zucker, Bailey Walinsky, Nadie Miller, Serenity Sanchez, Isa Argote, Gabe Feinberg, Henry Ringenbach, Sam Bilsky, Luke Schmotzer, Branden Wang, Zach Frederick, Henry Wang, and Anjali shipalia.

Of the 10 bills that were presented, 4 were passed in committee, 4 were passed on the floor, and 3 were signed into law by the student governor.  Tyler Heasley's bill to fund reforestation projects in urban areas was signed. Gabe Feinberg, Sam Bilsky, and Henry Ringenbach's bill to require all public schools to provide a class about mental health to all students in grades 6-8 was signed.

Last but not least, Luke Schmotzer, Henry Wang, Zach Frederick, and Branden Wang's bill to stop the advertisement of nicotine products was also signed. This year 8th grader Anjali Chepyala served as president of the senate after being elected last year.  This year, Brady's own Henry Wang ran for the same position and will serve as president of the Senate at next year's conference.  Way to go everyone!  You should be very proud of your hard work and accomplishments!
